Embarrassing admission: we kinda, sorta forgot about Brunei. Like, we forgot it was still a country and instead thought it had gone the way of "Burma" (now Republic of Myanmar) or something. That is, we had forgotten about Brunei until it popped up on our seatback television, on the Airshow map of what we were flying over, going from Hong Kong to Denpasar-Bali. There it was, in all its itty-bitty glory, in all .. more ..
Posted 22 days ago at Jaunted - The Pop Culture Travel GuideThe online world is filled with opportunities, information, and games that would have been impossible even just 10 years ago. For example, you can open your laptop or tablet and visit a newspaper published in Hong Kong in seconds. Or you can watch a football game in Australia in real time through the “magic” of the internet on that same computer. It’s a wonderful world that has appeared in these last ten years or so. There are also greater opportunities to try y .. more ..
Posted 22 days ago at I Travel here and thereSPOTTED! Perhaps the best advertising for an airline's Airbus A380 service...so far. The A380 is a double-decker airplane. This is a double-decker tram. We bet China Southern considered doing up the ad to make the tram look like an airplane, but that would take a little too much imagination from people who maybe catch a glimpse of the thing as it rolls through th .. more ..

Posted 23 days ago at Accidental Travel WriterYou know, we were just going to Instagram this and call it a day, but our dinner this evening in the Arrivals Hall at Hong Kong International Airport deserves so much more than that, especially when we're talking about a dish named "Twisted Donut Ricesheet Roll." Now, we thought we knew Hong Kong Airport's food offerings pretty well, until we noticed a li .. more ..

Posted 26 days ago at Everything Everywhere: Around the World Travel BlogWhen I walked onto my Kota Kinabalu flight, I was on a mission. The 3 1/2 hours from Hong Kong would give me enough time to read through my guidebook and choose some accommodation, write out the addressees for all of my postcards (yes I still send those things! Want one?) and basically sort all the bits of paper reminders I’d written for myself in the week before departing Vancouver. As I shimmied past the gentleman sitting in the aisle seat, I pegged him as a Christian missio .. more ..

Posted 30 days ago at Chuck Kuhn's Asia in PhotosThere are some cities around the world that I would hesitate with a nightime layover exploration. Hong Kong is not one of them. I’ve been lucky enough to visit a couple of times before so when I figured out my layover was 11 hours, I had no doubts about stepping off the express train at 8pm.
Posted 30 days ago at Babe With A BackPackWatch this video on YouTube. There have been several people ordering and setting up deliveries of cards for the past few months. I had made arrangements to get a set of cards purchased through friends from the United States, and cards that came via Hong Kong through delivery. All of those cards coincidentally arrived on the same day, so I had to make a trip to see people w .. more ..

Posted 32 days ago at Accidental Travel WriterIn every country, there is a particular district that I have grown fond of. There's Tsim Sha Tsui in Hong Kong and Raffles City in Singapore. As a result, I would tend to book hotels within these areas as I find myself most comfortable and at ease when staying in these places. Both districts are considered highly commercial areas as they are filled with lots of shops and restaurants making it so convenient for Paul and I to eat, shop and walk around at any given time of the day.
