Saint Pierre’s Cathedral in Geneva, Switzerland

When I visited Geneva, we made a stop at Saint Pierre’s Cathedral in the center of the Old Town. I wanted to see it since it had some unusual architectural elements as well as Roman and Medieval church ruins under the church, which you can visit. The cost of the the underground museum is 8 euros or 8 Swiss francs. A Visit to Lovely Geneva, Switzerland

One of the benefits of my blog is that I have made a few wonderful friends with people who have contacted me on it. One of them is an American friend I made who lives just outside of Geneva, Switzerland.  She still lives in France (on the border) and is married to a Frenchman and she and her husband worked at United Nations for years.  We met in Annecy for lunch one day and then I met her in Geneva for a couple of days to visit her city. I was very impressed with Geneva. It’ .. more ..

Nostalgia in Switzerland: We are the new “poor” – a trip to three world class towns

I was eleven when my parents moved from Leeds to Switzerland. That was 50 years ago; then you were given 12 Swiss francs when you changed £1! Nowadays, they give you a paltry 1 franc 20 cts for one hideously depreciating  £.  Where did it all go wrong? Oh how we travellers lament Harold Wilson’s famous words…“The pound in your pocket”. We British can no longer afford to travel the world with our noses ever so slightly turned up. In fact we can barely afford to .. more ..

The Geneva Mini-Guide

Geneva might be the main arrival point for skiers every winter but Switzerland’s second largest city is worth a visit in its own right. Perfectly picturesque – flagged by the Rhone river, Lake Geneva and the surrounding Alps – with art museums, cobbled streets, plenty of places to eat and drink, and only a six minute train journey from the airport, it’s a weekend getaway destination that shouldn’t be missed. Wales: How to explore Wales by bus

Brits may not always be the first to appreciate it, but Great Britain has Europe’s densest network of local bus routes – one that stretches well beyond urban areas to spread a fine mesh over the entire country. And “local” does not always mean short. Some local routes may extend to several hours traveling. Services may not always be quite so perfectly coordinated as in Switzerland, where rail and road public transport mix seamlessly. But local bus services in .. more ..
