Interview with Travel Bloggers, Tanya & Nara

Do you have a travel blog?
Of course!

If yes, what is the url of your blog?
http://www.offtrackbackpacking.com

Tell us what do you enjoy most about traveling.
traveling/backpacking is definitely having the freedom to do whatever you want. There is no schedule! The second best thing is the people you meet on the road. Visiting some of the most beautiful places in the world would feel empty without sharing those moments with fun people you meet during your journey.

Tell us what is the most interesting or most enjoyable travel experience you ever had.
experience you ever had. *The most memorable experience is definitely when we met each other while backpacking in Lisbon, Portugal. We’ve been friends for 5 years now!

Tell us where do you plan to travel to for your next trip.
currently preparing for her Kilimanjaro hike in Tanzania. After the challenging hike, she’ll be heading for a safari in the Serengeti and will then enjoy the beaches of Zanzibar! Nara recently got back from visiting her friend in California. Where to next? We’ll see!

If you may bring someone special along for your next trip, who will the person be, and why?
who will the person be, and why? *We’d actually like to travel together! We haven’t backpacked together ever since we met in Portugal, mainly because we don’t live in the same city and vacation time is restricted.

Interview with Travel Blogger, Judy Wells

Do you have a travel blog?
Yes

If yes, what is the url of your blog?
I have 2 travel oriented blogs: Travel on the Level, destinations,
advice and tips for those who prefer travel with less strenuous walking and
fewer stairs, http://www.travelonthelevel.blogspot.com, and Food Afar -
Recipes from a Travel Writer, http://www.foodafar.blogspot.com.

Tell us what do you enjoy most about traveling.
I love seeing places I’e read about, encountering new experience meeting people with other lifestyles, seeing how creativity pops out in different forms, tasting new foods  and being surprised.

Tell us what is the most interesting or most enjoyable travel experience you ever had.
Most enjoyable? wow. That’s really hard to pin down. The day in London
when I was at the doors of the British Museum as they opened  and spent the next 30 minutes alone with the Elgin marbles from the Parthenon. A number of faves occurred in Turkey: a picnic in a field of wildflowers near Odemis; imagining myself at a play in the exquisite purple and silver marble odeon, theater, in Aphrodesius; watching the real whirling dervishes in Mevlana; encountering a shepherd, his beautiful young daughter and a newborn lamb on the mountain above Sardis. Rounding a corner in the narrow passageway and gasping with the first glimpse of the “treasury” of Petra, Jordan. Pisco sours made with million years old glacial ice at the foot of a glacier in Patagonia, Chile. Swimming in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Phuket, Thailand. Watching dawn rise over the hoodoos of Bryce Canyon in Utah. See what you started?? Of course I can’t limit it to just one!

Tell us where do you plan to travel to for your next trip.
My  next trip is to Germany – Dusseldorf, Cologne, Leipzig, Dresden and Berlin.

If you may bring someone special along for your next trip, who will the person be, and why?
Won’t be bringing anyone along on that trip but I will be meeting up with some of my favorite people in the world – fellow members of the society of American Travel Writers.

Tell us what do you enjoy most about traveling.
I love traveling because it makes me feel young and active. I’m 59 this October.

Tell us what is the most interesting or most enjoyable travel experience you ever had.
Most memorable and exciting was when I and a forester friend traveled into the deep virgin jungle of Sarawak to see how  the nomadic Penan tribes live. It was my first experience to see a small traveling family of Penan making up camp because one of the women had just given birth and since the boy was not yet named we got the honour to name him ” Salleh” – after my forester friend’s  name.

Tell us where do you plan to travel to for your next trip.
My next big trip will be to Sabah in Malaysia.

If you may bring someone special along for your next trip, who will the person be, and why?
The person I hold dear to my life i.e. my wife. Well, she keeps on talking with me to keep me awake on the wheels or to take over the wheels when I’m no more alert.

Tell us what do you enjoy most about traveling.

I most enjoy the thrill of the new.. the thrill of the unexpected. I love what happens when everything goes wrong–getting lost, meeting people along the way, finding myself in new situations and being challenged.

Tell us what is the most interesting or most enjoyable travel experience you ever had.
I’d say that trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu was by far one of the most amazing things I have ever done in my life. I wanted to die, it was so hard.. and yet, somehow, I kept putting one foot in front of the other, and by the fourth day when we finally made it to Machu Picchu I was so happy and so proud that I nearly fell over (well, that, and I was completely exhausted!)

Tell us where do you plan to travel to for your next trip.
I’d like to go to South East Asia.

If you may bring someone special along for your next trip, who will the person be, and why?
Probably my boyfriend, who is also an active traveler. He’s been saving as well to get up and get out there!

Interview with Travel Blogger, Jethro Williams

Do you have a travel blog?
Yes

If yes, what is the url of your blog?
http://www.jrosworld.com

Tell us what do you enjoy most about traveling.
Well it beats the Hell out of getting a job and sitting in an office all day. What I really love the most is the freedom. I do what I want and go where I want, when I want and how I want. You wake up one morning, you look at a map, and just say to yourself, “you know, I think I’ll go here today.” You’ve got no job. You’ve got no responsibility. Other people find it strange that I can live a lifestyle that gives me the freedom to do literally anything that I please. They have rotas and deadlines and superiors that they have to answer to. I don’t. I just do what I want. And that’s what I love the most.

Tell us what is the most interesting or most enjoyable travel experience you ever had.
The 3 months that I had in Bolivia is probably my fondest memory so far. The people there have so little, but they’ll still be friendlier than the typical Westerner that has everything. Their attitudes taught me a lot about material possessions. They don’t have Xbox 360s or iPhones or even paved roads in many places. The kids entertain themselves by playing football in the streets. It’s like going back in time 50 years before electronics ran our lives. I felt very humbled by my time that I had there. And this was the place that I fell in love with an Israeli girl that I met.

Tell us where do you plan to travel to for your next trip.
I have a job offer starting this December to work the ski lifts at a resort in Utah in the US. Work-visa is currently pending. Depending on the circumstances, my plan is to alternate hemispheres for a couple of years and follow the snow. Probably New Zealand once the sun starts to shine in Utah. Then who knows? Perhaps France for the 2011/12 Northern hemisphere Winter.

If you may bring someone special along for your next trip, who will the person be, and why?
The Israeli girl that I mentioned in question 4. My plan when I left England was to not return for ten years. But a family bereavement forced me back. Me and this girl had separated for a couple of weeks as we wanted to see different things in different countries, but the plan was to reconvene back in Bolivia. But I was forced back home before we had the chance. That was 2 months ago, and she is coming over from South America to England  so we can be together again before I fly out to Utah. But I know that I’m going to miss her so much whilst I’m away. And although we plan to betogether again, travelling again after I finish in Utah, it’ll make it a long six months. I wish that we could have all of that time together.

WWW.WHEREDAILY.COM: Intelligent Travel for Body and Soul

Tell us what do you enjoy most about traveling.
Traveling is the ultimate act of creating: creating your life with no
idea and no controls of how it is all going to unfold as you are doing it. It is in the moment freedom: living in the basic nature of the soul.

Tell us what is the most interesting or most enjoyable travel experience you ever had.
It was both the best and the worst: Living by my wits and wisdom in Africa in the 1980s. Taking an overland adventure truck through the continent and then getting off the truck and taking the continent on its own terms.

Tell us where do you plan to travel to for your next trip.
I plan to explore the backwaters of my own town – Los Angeles – from the bowels of the Los Angeles River to the Monster Mansions over Malibu. And then I might head off to Singapore for a week or two to update the recent changes in that city over the past year on a magazine assignment.

If you may bring someone special along for your next trip, who will the person be, and why?
who will the person be, and why?

I prefer to travel alone so I can think, immerse and fully absorb. If I take anyone with me it is travel photographer and my travel companion Ilene Perlman http://www.ileneperlman.com>, whose work graces my site, my stories and my life.
